A fascinating study suggests that music can transcend language barriers, allowing emotions to be felt universally.

Have you ever wondered if certain artists have a knack for creating specific moods in their music? To explore this, we utilized an AI tool designed to assess emotional depth in human voices. Our analysis focused on the music of popular UK artists, revealing which ones evoke the happiest, saddest, and most emotionally charged vibes.

The happiest music artists from the UK charts, according to AI voice recognition

To kick off our research, we gathered a diverse collection of music from the top streamed artists on the UK’s Spotify charts over the last ten years, amounting to an impressive 27,720 minutes of audio. We then employed advanced AI voice recognition software to analyze the emotional content within each artist’s music, assigning scores to various emotions detected in the vocals.

To discover the happiest artist based on their music, we began by calculating the average happiness score for all the artists in our study. Using this average as a benchmark, we identified the artist whose score surpassed it by the greatest margin.

Our research shows that Florence + The Machine radiates more happiness than any other artist we examined, achieving an impressive happiness score of 31.4. This figure is a staggering 867.5% above the average for musicians, largely thanks to the uplifting quality of lead singer Florence Welch’s voice. Following closely behind is Anne-Marie, who earned a happiness score of 30.3, placing her 834.6% above the average as well.

Methodology

To kick off our study, we compiled a seed list featuring the most streamed artists on the UK Spotify charts over the past ten years. We analyzed a staggering 27,720 minutes of music from these artists using Vokaturi, an advanced AI emotion recognition software that measures emotional intensity in human voices.

We assigned each artist a score for five key emotions—happiness, sadness, anger, fear, and neutrality—based on the prominence of these feelings in their voices. By calculating the average scores for each emotion across all artists, we identified those who excelled, scoring significantly higher than the established baselines.
